It’s 1969 and the Midwives are back aiding in an ever-growing number of home births under the watchful eye of the Sisters. Season 13 also delves into the complexities and challenges of poor housing and health issues for the nurses, midwives, and nuns of the Nonnatus House.
This wonderful series is based on the best-selling memoirs from Jennifer Worth telling the stories of midwives and families in London’s East End. Following Worth’s memoirs, Call the Midwife outlines the experiences, daily struggles, and rewards of the hardworking nurses, midwives, and nuns that serve London’s poorest mothers-to-be. Created by Heidi Thomas, the series is set in Poplar, London and highlights the necessary work of it’s subjects. Thomas believes that the show can be enjoyed as an escapist treat or as an exploration of social history, prejudices, and past difficulties faced by people of a different time. Celebrate the women who play a crucial part in English social history and the building of new families by tuning in to the newest season.
