Slide into Summer Camps at WITF

WITF is excited to announce that we’re hosting two weeks of Summer Camps at the WITF Public Media Center’s Innovation Studio!

Half-day enrollment costs $135 per week per explorer and full-day enrollment is $270 per week per explorer. Lunch is not provided; explorers who enroll in full-day camp should bring a packed lunch.

Robotics and Coding | 8am – noon

Robotics and Coding camp exposes explorers to a variety of coding concepts and robotics systems through discovery and design challenges! No prior coding experience is necessary. Challenges are designed to build upon existing knowledge and enhance understanding of coding and robotics throughout the week.

Explorers will start with basic coding concepts using the Switcheroo Coding Crew and Bee Bots, then expand their knowledge and skill using Spheros, Cubelets, Ozobots, and littleBits. Various robotics challenges, like exploring the solar system, will introduce explorers to some of the leading robotics systems in education.

Lights, Camera, Action: STEM Explorers | 1 – 5pm

Lights, Camera, Action: STEM Explorers infuses the exciting world of digital creation with scientific phenomena! Throughout the week, explorers will be immersed in the world of digital creation, delving into topics such as content creation, audio engineering, online etiquette, and video editing.

Digital creation topics will be introduced seamlessly as students engage in scientific inquiry and discovery alongside WITF’s original character, Tiara (Tia) Flora! Explorers will collaborate with professional creators to produce a scientific-inquiry short-form video (aka a “short”) by the end of the week.

Flight & Aerodynamics | 8am – noon

Flight & Aerodynamics camp explores the thrills of aviation. Our sky-high intensive program combines the engineering design process, creative thinking, the arts, and a collaborative environment as explorers investigate the wonders and physics of flight.

Explorers will design experiments to investigate history’s most iconic flying machines, observe abstract physics concepts like energy conservation and buoyancy, and apply their learning in our hands-on flight simulator!

Electrifying Science | 1 – 5pm

Electrifying Science camp begins with the basic concepts of open and closed circuits and progresses in depth and complexity throughout the week as explorers engage in hands-on electrical engineering projects.

Explorers will create a basic light and switch, develop a circuit to detect a water leak, build a touch lamp that uses a human to complete the circuit (don’t worry – it’s safe!), power arcade games, build an electrical board that launches components into flight, and explore static electricity with our Van de Graaff generator! Explorers will also investigate green energy, including solar, wind, hydro, and even geothermal power.
