Gastroenteritis Sweeps the Maternity Home
Nurse Crane’s Ability is Questioned Following a Training Course
-
Christina Zeiders
As Nonnatus House enters 1968, change is in the air – families are gaining new tools to plan their families and medical technology is rapidly changing, but the nurses and nuns remain steadfast in their dedication to their patients and their babies.
On Sunday’s episode of Call the Midwife, Trixie cares for a Hindu mother and her newborn twins, but it’s not long before a gastroenteritis outbreak is declared at the maternity home, leading to an emergency closure.
Nurse Crane is shocked when her competency is questioned after she pushes back against ageism during a ventouse training course. But she is assured of her skill when she handles an unexpectedly complicated delivery in a patient’s home – and as Sister Monica Joan shares some very wise and kind words.
Watch Call the Midwife on Sundays at 8pm on WITF TV or stream it on the PBS or WITF app.
