Suicide is not a topic that has often been openly discussed. It was too painful, hidden, stigmatized and denied as in “my loved one would never harm themselves. When suicide was talked about, it often was too late — after someone had died by suicide.
WITF has launched a new project that not only talks about suicide but does it in a different way. It’s called “One More Moment” and it features stories of people who have attempted suicide and lived to talk about their one more moment, lost a loved one to suicide, think about suicide often or want to help to prevent suicide.Along the way, we hear about mental health and ways to get help.
One More Moment is the topic of Wednesday’s Smart Talk. Appearing on the program are project lead and producer Keira McGuire, Dr. Lauren Forrest, an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Penn State University, where she researches eating disorder characterization, suicide risk factors and the co-occurrence of eating disorders and suicide, and Dennis Smith, who tells his story as part of One More Moment.
