Penn State dominates Pitt

(Pittsburgh) — Penn State scored 37 second half points and cruised to a 51-6 win over Pitt in a steady rain at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh Saturday night.

The margin of victory was the largest in the Penn State-Pitt series since 1968.

Quarterback Trace McSorley was once again the difference-maker for the Lions,.. throwing for two touchdowns and running for another.

Running back Miles Sanders had another solid game, rushing 16 times for 118 yards.

Budding star K. J. Hamler led the receiving group with two touchdowns,.. one from McSorley,.. the other on a jet sweep to open the scoring in the first quarter.

Special teams also contributed to the rout with return man DeAndre Thompkins taking a third quarter punt 39 yards for a touchdown.

The Nittany Lions defense held Pitt to just 69 yards of offense in the second half.

The Panthers were penalized 13 times in the game for 101 yards.

Penn State returns to action next Saturday,.. hosting Kent State at Beaver Stadium.  Kickoff is at noon.
