Growing season has changed in PA

(State College) — You may have noticed Pennsylvania is experiencing a pretty damp summer.

But have you noticed how the season has changed over time? 

Last summer Pennsylvania was in the middle of a drought. This summer, you need to carry an umbrella at all times.

Meteorologist Paul Head says those year-to year differences aren’t indicative of climate change.

But Head says the growing season has definitely gotten longer since the 1970s.

“As a former farmer we used to not be able to plant until after Memorial Day.  Now I’ve noticed that we can get away with maybe early May even,” he said.

Head adds, back in the 70s, you could see snow fall in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. That’s nearly impossible today.
