More Pa. residents selecting health plans

(Harrisburg) — More Pennsylvanians are selecting health insurance plans on the federally run Marketplace.

The latest federal data shows about 180,000 people had selected a plan by Dec. 15, versus about 123,000 through the end of January 2014.

Nearly 80 percent are getting financial assistance in paying their monthly premiums.

But the data doesn’t address who’s actually paid their first monthly premium, which is required for coverage to begin.

Open enrollment continues through February 15th, but for coverage to start January first, you had to select a plan by December 15th.

For more information on open enrollment, check out WITF’s Getting Covered tool.
