(Harrisburg) — The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased across the midstate in June, according to the latest data from the state Department of Labor and Industry.

Despite a growing number of workers, the unemployment rate continues to decline.

The Gettysburg area had the lowest rate in the midstate at 4.2 percent.

The Lancaster and Lebanon metro areas were not far behind.

In Harrisburg, which is the region’s largest labor market, the rate hovered at 4.9 percent.

Juniata County is the only place where unemployment didn’t change, instead, the rate held steady at 5.4 percent.

At the other end, Pottsville has the highest unemployment rate with 6.4 percent.

Unemployment data is considered more reliable when seasonally adjusted to account for usual swings in economic activity based around the weather.

Statewide, Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate is 5.6 percent. That’s better than the national average, and the lowest level the state has seen in six years.

The unemployment rate, in percentages:

Juniata 5.4, unchanged from May

Sunbury 6.0, down .3 from May

Selinsgrove 5.3, down .4 from May

Pottsville 6.4, down .3 from May

Gettysburg 4.2, down .3 from May

Chambersburg 4.6, down .4 from May
