Night work on I-83 N starts Sunday in Harrisburg area

Road construction ahead sign

(Harrisburg) — Starting on Sunday, PennDOT maintenance crews will be working on northbound I-83 at night between Exit 43 (Second Street) and Exit 46 (the Eisenhower Interchange) in the Harrisburg area of Dauphin County.

The night work will require the maintenance crews to close one lane of traffic on northbound I-83, starting at 8 p.m. and continuing to around 4 a.m. the next morning.

This will be repeated on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. However, on Thursday night, the operation will end at midnight.

The northbound traffic lane restriction is necessary so that the maintenance crews can safely make deck repairs to the bridge structures in this area, as well as sweep debris from the bridge decks and clean out the scuppers that drain water from the bridges.

Motorists are asked to be alert to this operation and to slow down when approaching and driving through the work area – for their safety as well as for the safety of the work crews.
