Entomologists to educate, entertain at Great Insect Fair

(State College) — The 20th annual Great Insect Fair will be invading Penn State’s Bryce Jordan Center next month.

The free event Saturday, October fifth is expected to draw about 6,500 bipedal visitors.

Senior Extension Entomologist Steve Jacobs says the fair is designed to enlighten and educate.

“To elevate the idea of entomological sciences, what entomology means, and the kinds of things we do for society,” says Jacobs. “Also, because of our interest in education and science education in particular, this is an event to promote that as well.”

Jacobs says fairgoers can participate in a variety of safe, hands-on activities. Some of the more popular attractions are the insect zoo and the insect deli, where brave souls are always lined up for a taste of chocolate covered crickets, meal worm bruschetta or other exotic fare.
