(Camp Hill) — Tonight’s high-profile zoning hearing in Fairview Township has been canceled.

The firm behind the proposal, Goodman Birtcher North America, is withdrawing its conditional use application.

In a letter to the Fairview Township Board of Supervisors, the developer’s attorney writes the site elevation must be further lowered to provide for safe approaches at the Capital City Airport.

The letter states Goodman Birtcher is committed to the project, which would bring a one million square foot warehouse to an 82 acre tract of land just off the Lewisberry Road exit of I-83, and looks forward to presenting revised plans to the board.

A grassroots group known as Concerned Citizens of Fairview had planned on showing up by the hundreds at the now-cancelled hearing.

Susan Smith, an attorney representing some of the affected neighbors, says the withdrawal of the application appears to be the appropriate step.

She says she believes the avigation easements in question represent a substantial hurdle for the developer to overcome.
