Many animal shelters and rescues across Central Pennsylvania and the United States are at or near capacity as cat populations surge this summer and adoptions fail to keep pace.
Central Pennsylvania’s food banks are seeing increasing demand following eligibility changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, that are kicking people off the program and causing confusion. Pennsylvanians enrolled in SNAP decreased by 11% in the past year, from 1.96 million in May 2025 to 1.75 million as of June 2026, according to the state Department of Human Services.
Several YWCAs across Central Pennsylvania marked Red Sand Day on Thursday by filling sidewalk cracks with red sand to raise awareness about human trafficking and the victims who often fall through the cracks.
Visitors of this year’s York Quilters Guild quilt show could explore over 200 designs, check out quilting accessories and tools and watch demonstrations held throughout the day. The two-day event was themed “Tiny Treasures” and focused on quilts that used very small pieces of fabric that came together to create a larger, unique design.

In turn, Douglas is refusing to endorse Stelson should she win the primary unless she liberalizes more of her positions, including on immigration.
