Lancaster County District Attorney: police shooting was justified
(Lancaster) — The Lancaster County District Attorney has concluded a police shooting, which left a Rapho Township man dead last month, was justified.
District Attorney Craig Stedman’s decision follows a State Police investigation into the August 12th incident.
Stedman says 46 year old Steven Michael Brill failed to comply with repeated requests to put down his gun, which appeared to be a rifle with a scope.
During a third confrontation with Manheim Borough Police, Brill reportedly aimed his weapon at an officer.
That’s when a pair of officers opened fire — shooting and killing him.
The investigation discovered the weapon was actually a Daisy pellet rifle with a scope, but Stedman says he believes Brill gave police no choice but to use lethal force.
Over the past year, Brill had been taken to the hospital on four separate occasions after expressing to police his desire to commit suicide.
