(Lancaster) – The YMCAs of Lancaster and York County are merging. They’ll now be known as the YMCA of the Roses.
The two associations will share staffing, services, and programs.
President and CEO Larry Richardson said a single corporate office will manage both counties, which will reduce administrative overhead.
“A larger ‘ Y,’ particularly in Lancaster and York, will provide a more sustainable financial model,” he said. “And it does enrich opportunities for everyone involved staff, volunteers, members and so on.”
The new name comes from medieval England when the houses of Lancaster and York united after the War of the Roses.
“Lancaster has always been known as the Red Rose City. York has always been known as the White Rose City. So as the throne was united in the 15th century, so are the two YMCAs uniting. And that’s why we thought YMCA of the Roses was very appropriate,” Richardson said.
Members will automatically join the new organization with the same level of service they held before the merger.
