NPR political correspondent Scott Detrow spent several years at WITF and about a year and a half covering fracking for StateImpact Pennsylvania.
The day after President Trump and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden talked about fracking during Thursday night’s debate, Detrow tweeted his take on the role fracking plays in Pennsylvania, adding context to the candidates’ talking points.
You can also find a trove of fracking coverage from StateImpact, including some significant stories this year:
Here’s Detrow’s breakdown of fracking following the debate:
-Fracking – more accurately the energy economy that has sprung up around it — has been a real boost to the state, particularly Western Pa. Pittsburgh has become a Houstoneque energy hub.
-While money poured in some places, other communities were very underwhelmed by the promises vs the reality. A @MarieCusick about that: https://t.co/iRaf6No8Pu
-ALSO, this is not longer the fast-booming energy economy it was a decade ago. Thousands of wells have been drilled, and energy prices have dropped. Both have led to a relative slowdown. Voters aren’t as obsessed as GOP thinks they are. From @susanphill :https://t.co/4IRNlFo4FO
Finally, having kept you this long, I present the greatest story I will ever report. It was about about people who hunt for rattlesnakes near fracking sites. https://t.co/JQEnY5Hg10
