Penn State reviewing events in light of the coronavirus

Each year, the Blue-White game draws tens of thousands of people to the University Park campus. The scrimmage gives Nittany Lions fans a preview of the football players and serves as a popular social event.
But now, as the number of known cases of the coronavirus in the United States continues to climb, Penn State is reviewing its upcoming events, including the annual Blue-White Game, scheduled for April 18.
The university said in a news release that a group of senior leaders and faculty experts is reviewing upcoming Penn State events and “making decisions on whether and how such events should proceed in light of the rapidly evolving coronavirus situation.”
That review includes everything from academic meetings to the Blue-White Game. Penn State said for now organizers of events can decide the “best approach,” but that could change.
“The safety of our community is paramount and is driving all of our decision-making,” said Provost Nick Jones, who spoke with WPSU last week about the university’s efforts.
There are no known cases of COVID-19 at Penn State, and the university is currently on spring break. In Pennsylvania, there were six presumed cases as of Sunday night.
