(Universtiy Park, PA) — The Penn State Nittany Lions are just two weeks away from the start of their 2019 college football season.

It’s a young squad, especially on offense, at the skill positions.

That includes two inexperienced players competing for the job of quarterback.

Head coach James Franklin says youth comes with its pros and cons:

“The positives is you’ve got a bunch of guys that are hungry and are excited and that have something to really prove and hale got a chip on their shoulder.  Obviously the negatives is you lack experience.  Experience counts and experience matters,” he said.

Franklin also said the bright lights and big stage can be overwhelming for some.

“Experience playing major college football.  Experience playing in Beaver Stadium.  Experience playing in all these different venues that we’re going to go to on the road,.. that is a factor.  There’s no doubt about it.”

The Lions return just 12 seniors from last years team.

There are 55 first or second year players on their roster.

Penn State opens their season Saturday, August 31st against Idaho at Beaver Stadium.
