Central Pa. to see break from heat wave this week

(State College) — The midstate could finally see some relief from a heat wave that gripped most of Pennsylvania over the last several days.
National Weather Service Meteorlogist Steve Travis said a cold front with rain and storms will pass through the state today.
He said the result will be much lower temperatures and humidity.
“Maybe a little of rain still Tuesday. Drying out, though, really nicely Wednesday and Thursday and even on Friday,” Travis said. “We should see some sun, highs in the low to mid 80s. Lower humidity, for sure. So, a nice stretch on the way.”
High temperatures combined with high humidity made it feel in excess of 105-degrees Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
It’s called the heat index and 105 is the threshold that results in the National Weather Service in State Collete issuing excessive heat warnings, which meant people were urged to either stay indoors or limit outdoor activities, while staying hydrated.
“Although we didn’t experience record-high temperatures, where the record high — both Saturday and Sunday in Harrisburg — is 101 and we didn’t get to that,” Travis said. “We did experience the heat and humidity, which made it feel well over 100 and that’s why we had such dangerous conditions and those exessive heat warnings that were in effect over the weekend.”
The weather relief could come at a price, however.
Travis said some of the storms today may be severe.
