Lancaster Co. DA threatens legal action against commissioners

(Harrisburg) — Lancaster County District Attorney Craig Stedman is asking county commissioners to cease and desist “defamatory statements” and “unlawful oversight.”

In a letter dated March 5, Mark Seiberling, an attorney for Stedman, said the notice concerns “a series of false and defamatory statements you have made related to DA Stedman’s alleged misuse and misappropriation of drug forfeiture funds to lease and use an official work vehicle.”

He also called attempts to investigate Stedman “unlawful,” because Stedman is “a constitutional officer independent from the County Commissioners.”

Seiberling said Stedman is “seriously considering pursuing formal legal remedies” against the commissioners.

In its reponse, the Board of Commissioners said it will not agree to the demands in the cease and desist notice and views it “as an attempt to intimidate and prevent them from doing their duty on behalf of the citizens of Lancaster County.”
