(Greene Township) — A teenage girl drowned in the pool at Caledonia State Park over the weekend, state police said.

According to the report, officers were contacted at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28, by a Franklin County Coroner’s Office official, who was at Chambersburg Hospital in regard to an accidental drowning.

The coroner said a 15-year-old girl drowned in the pool at the park on Pine Grove Road due to medical issues, the report shows.

Terry Brady, press secretary for the state’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources which runs the park, said officials were told the girl dove into the pool and did not come up. He added the girl wasn’t under the water long, and another patron brought her back up.

Lifeguards immediately began administering “lifesaving measures” until paramedics arrived, Brady said.

Brady said the pool was well-staffed that day with 10 lifeguards on duty.

The facility was closed on Sunday, July 29 to give the staff time to process the incident and to seek counseling, if needed.

The pool reopened on Monday, July 30 for normal business hours.
