A Chambersburg church wants members to bring their political differences to the service. Despite differences in their opinions, members are still able to pray together afterward.
“This is just the beginning,” said Janelle Crossley, founder of the PA Coalition for Trans Youth.
Chambersburg repealed a law that would have extended protections for gay, transgender or genderqueer people in employment, housing and public accommodations. It would have covered others, such as veterans, who aren’t named in state anti-discrimination law.
The law will go into effect immediately without the mayor’s signature.
On Sept. 20, council voted 7-3 to pass the ordinance.
In a four-hour meeting on Monday, the borough council voted 7-3 to make it illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity in housing, employment and public accommodation.
