West Philadelphia Street is closed after a retaining wall near the bridge over the Codorus Creek collapsed.

The collapse, which is more than 10 feet long, will close the left lane of the bridge “for the foreseeable future,” York Mayor Michael Helfrich said.

As of 12:30 p.m., the entire bridge was closed, but the right lane was expected to reopen once barriers are placed to close off the left lane, Helfrich said.

The left lane of the bridge will be closed until the Army Corps of Engineers come to inspect and repair the wall collapse.

Traffic, which runs one-way westbound in that area, is being diverted at Pershing Avenue while the bridge is closed.

While the rain ended overnight, the threat of flooding across the area hasn’t ended.

Susquehanna River levels are at minor flood stage this morning, and are expected to increase by Friday morning.
