Weather service: Flood risk remains through Friday

(State College) — Flooding remains a risk for the midstate after several days of rain that deluged roads and put a damper on Fourth of July festivities.
The storms have left the ground saturated, said national Weather Service meteorologist John Banghoff. With rain still expected throughout the afternoon, that leaves risks of flash flooding, especially after a quick downpour.
The heat and rain won’t last much longer, however. A cold front will move in Friday evening, dropping night temperatures into the 60s and leading to what Banghoff said is likely to be a beautiful weekend.
So far this year the Harrisburg area has had about 27 inches of rain, according to National Weather Service data.That’s about six inches more than usual. Banghoff said temperatures have also been higher than average.
He cautioned drivers to avoid flooded roads, as it only takes a few inches of rain for a vehicle to lose traction.
