Wegmans announces opening date for Lancaster store

Wegmans Food Markets will open its Lancaster-area store at 7 a.m. on Sept. 23.

It will be the chain’s second midstate location and the first in Pennsylvania to include The Burger Bar, a built-in restaurant that first opened at Wegman’s Pittsford, New York, location in 2014 and has since expanded to 10 other cities. The casual restaurant serves burgers, sandwiches, salads, milkshakes, soup and sides.

The supermarket is part of The Crossings at Conestoga Creek development, located on the corner of Harrisburg Pike and Route 30 in Manheim Township.

Wegmans has already begun hiring for 475 full- and part-time positions.

“This store is years in the making,” store manager Jimmy Bellis said in a press release. “We’re grateful to the Lancaster community for welcoming Wegmans with open arms and are eager to begin serving customers here.”

The chain announced plans to open in Lancaster back in 2015 when The Crossings at Conestoga Creek was still in a planning phase.
