Police lights

(Guilford Township) — A Chambersburg woman died after being hit while crossing a section of Interstate 81 Wednesday evening, state police said.

Desi Marie L. Anderson, 23, was walking from the center median of I-81, across the southbound lanes toward the right shoulder between exits 16 (U.S. 30) and 17 (Walker Road) when she was hit at about 6:59 p.m., police said.

Brennen X. Obrien, 19, of Shippensburg, was driving in the far right southbound exit lane to exit 16, when Anderson crossed into his lane. Obrien’s vehicle hit Anderson, and he pulled into the shoulder of the road to stop.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. Obrien was not injured.

State police indicate that southbound lanes of Interstate 81 were shut down for approximately an hour and a half.

Police are investigating, including why Anderson was crossing the highway.
