Capitol Hill hearing focuses on voter registration safeguards

(Harrisburg) — The issue of non-U.S. citizens registering to vote and voting in Pennsylvania was the subject of a joint hearing of the Senate State Government and Senate Transportation Committees last week..  

During the hearing, PennDOT Director of Licensing Kara Templeton, said they’ve made changes to reduce the chances of non-U.S. citizens from registering to vote through the Motor Voter law.

“We have not received any type of negative feedback from customers on these changes.  It’s really kind of behind the scenes for the customers.  They really don’t know about this inhancement because either they get asked the questions or they don’t,” she said.

Templeton said those completing the electronic Motor Voter application are asked three times about their citizenship.
