(Harrisburg) — The deputy coroner for Carbon and Schuylkill counties is facing charges for allegedly soliciting sex from a minor online.

The Attorney General’s office says Edward Smith, 60, of Tamaqua was arrested Thursday for soliciting sex from an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old on a social networking site.

The agent reportedly told Smith multiple times during their online conversation that he was 14. The AG’s office says Smith asked the agent for sex, then made plans to meet up and told the agent to erase all of their chats.

Smith was taken into custody upon arriving at the designated meeting location.

He is currently in Luzerne County Prison on charges of unlawful contact with a minor and criminal attempt to commit involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, which are both felonies.
