Names of couple in apparent murder-suicide released

The wife had a Protection From Abuse order against her estranged husband.

(Spring Grove) — A 42-year-old man fatally shot his wife — with whom he had been separated — and then himself at her home in Jackson Township on Monday night, according to York County Coroner Pam Gay.

“I don’t know how he gained entry,” Gay said Tuesday morning.

Gay listed the victim as 50-year-old Susan Hoke, of the 1200 block of Summit Run Court, Jackson Township. She died from a gunshot wound to the head at the hands of her husband, Scott Michael Hoke, 42, of the 1700 block of Cemetery Road, North Codorus Township, who then killed himself by a gunshot to the head, Gay said.

Their daughter, 17, was home at the time but did not witness the shooting and was not harmed, according to a release from Northern York County Regional Police. She fled to a neighbor’s home and called 911.

Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance about 10:40 p.m. When they arrived, they found the bodies of Susan and Scott Hoke. Police said he was still gripping a handgun in his hand.

York County Chief Deputy Coroner Claude Stabley and Deputy Coroner Tania Zech responded to the scene and pronounced the couple dead. There will be no autopsies, Gay said.

Next-of-kin have been notified. Northern York County Regional Police continue to investigate. They ask anyone with information to call 717-292-3647.
