York County government website hacked for a time

York County’s website was taken over by a group calling itself AnonPlus on Friday.
(York) — York County’s government website was taken over for a time on Friday, a county spokesman said.
Visitors to the site at yorkcountypa.gov were given a single web page with information about a group called AnonPlus Friday afternoon.
The site was later taken down all together before it was restored.
In an email sent shortly after 5 p.m. Friday, York County spokesman Carl Lindquist said the website was down for less than three hours, from noon until 2 p.m., and then from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m.
The cause of the outage was found to be “malicious code on the website server that allowed backdoor access to the County’s public-facing website,” Lindquist said by email. The code was disabled, he said.
Lindquist said the affected server’s only function is to host the county’s public-facing website, which “is intentionally hosted independently of the County’s Information Technology networks as a precaution in case of a malicious attack such as the one experienced Friday.”
Lindquist said other websites around the world appeared to have been compromised by the same group. It didn’t appear any personal or private information was compromised through the county’s website, he said.
