What to look for on Smart Talk Thursday, December 3, 2015:

The world’s attention was focused on the United Nations World Climate Summit 2015 in Paris earlier this week when the leaders of more than 150 nations converged on the conference.  Coming just a few weeks after terrorist attacks carried out by ISIS in Paris, much of the media coverage centered on fighting terrorism and security rather than a warming planet.

But now the world leaders are gone and the conference continues until December 11 in an effort to reach agreement on ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to keep the Earth’s temperature from rising.

Dr. Donald Brown of Widener University’s Commonwealth Law School is an expert on the ethics and justice of climate change.  He has just released research on how 23 nations dealt with ethics issues when making their climate commitments.

Dr. Brown leads several discussions on the issue at the conference this week and speaks to Smart Talk live from Paris on Thursday’s program.

Also, Smart Talk delves into two aspects of money and women Thursday.  Women hold 11 trillion dollars in assets, are half the workforce, are increasingly breadwinners, and are starting their own businesses at a faster pace.  In fact the number of businesses owned by women increased 74% between 1997 and 2015 compared to a 51% increase for all new businesses.   With this new wealth, women are investing more and investing differently than men.

Joining us to discuss these trends are Matthew Kogan, CFP®, CAIA, JD, Executive Vice President and Portfolio Manager for FMA Advisory Inc., an independent investment advisory firm headquartered in Harrisburg and Patti Husic, President & CEO of Centric Bank, past president of Pennsylvania Bankers Association.
