(York) — York County’s new public safety radio system is passing a key step.

The Federal Communications Commission is approving the county’s request for a group of frequencies.

The county says it worked for nearly two years to earn the okay from the FCC.

It expects the frequencies to be in high demand.

The new public safety radio system is expected to be ready in mid-2017.

It’s designed to make it easier for first responders to talk to one another.
