(York) — Starting today, nearly a mile portion of Route 425 between Chapel Church Road and Shoff Road in Chanceford Township, York County, will be closed to thru-traffic for the next seven weeks.

A little more than 1,600 vehicles travel on this section of Route 425 on a daily basis.

Motorists will be detoured around the road closure by way of Burkholder Road (State Route 2014), Route 74, Windsor Road (SR 2031), and Route 624.

The road closure is necessary so that the contractor for this construction project can safely remove trees along the road, relocate utility poles and lines, strengthen and reinforce the embankment in areas to better support the road, and reconstruct the outside shoulders of the road.

Route 425 should be reopened to traffic by the end of July.

Construction work, involving the repair and asphalt paving of the road, will likely continue until mid-to-late September. The daytime work during this time will involve single-lane traffic restrictions with flaggers assisting motorists through the work zone.

PennDOT has contracted with Kinsley Construction, Inc. of York, Pennsylvania, to conduct this road improvement project at a cost of $972,136. The overall project is scheduled to be finished by the end of September.
