York County’s Toys for Tots losing its home, looking for new space
(York) — One group provides 25,000 toys a year to kids in York County, but it’s looking for a new home.
The search is on for about 10,000 square feet in a warehouse in the county, though the charity would prefer to be close to the city of York.
Toys for Tots hasn’t moved in 10 years, but its current warehouse is being partially converted to offices.
Dave Brady, chairman for Toys for Tots in York County, says he’s looking for free rent.
“That the right person will hear us, and wave their hand and say hey, come over on here, we can help you out. We’re a very quiet tenant, for most of the year you won’t even see us,” says Brady.
Brady says he’s had many talks with potential landlords.
“Unfortunately they haven’t been very productive. We had some folks who had some space but different things didn’t work out. We found some space in some locations, but they’re not really willing to give it up at no cost.”
Brady says it only really gets busy for Toys for Tots from October through December, as the campaign picks up ahead of Christmas.
He says if it can’t secure space by July first, the current landlord will allow them to park trailers in the parking lot temporarily.
Without a new home, Brady says York County’s Toys for Tots program is in jeopardy.
