State Lawmakers Study the Dangers of Powdered Alcohol

(Philadelphia) — State lawmakers held a roundtable discussion in Philadelphia last week on proposals to make new powdered alcohol illegal in the Pennsylvania.

The state liquor control board has banned the sale of powdered alcohol in state stores, but some lawmakers are concerned that the new substance will still find its way into the commonwealth and into teenage hands. Opponants to the water-soluable packets of alcohol say it will be easier to conceal and for teenagers to abuse.

Democratic Senator Shirley Kitchen of Philadelphia has introduced a couple of bills to ban powdered alcohol in Pennsylvania.

Kitchen says at the very least, Pennsylvania should regulate powdered alcohol the same way as liquid alcohol.
