I-83 North ramp in Lemoyne to close today

highway_ramps.jpg

(Lemoyne) — Today, weather permitting, construction crews will permanently close the existing ramp from Lowther Street (at the Maple Street Intersection) to northboundInterstate 83 in Lemoyne, Cumberland County.

Lowther Street motorists headed to northbound I-83 will be required to use the existing ramp from the intersection of 3rd and Lowther streets to access northbound I-83. In order to accommodate the additional traffic flow through the intersection of 3rd Street and Lowther Street, improvements have been made to the intersection including the addition of a second straight through-lane on Lowther Street and a new traffic signal.

PennDOT advises motorists to use caution when traveling through the work zone and to watch for new signing that will advise of the modified access to northbound I-83.

This work is weather sensitive, and adverse conditions could postpone implementation of this ramp closure. These ramp modifications are being made to eliminate the conflicts associated with the existing, short weaving areas of entering and exiting traffic.

This work is part of the $22.1-million construction project with J.D.EckmanInc., of Atglen, Pennsylvania, that began last year to make several safety and congestion mitigation improvements to the I-83/Route 581 interchange and adjacent ramps.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2015.
