March 28, 1979 is one of the most historic dates in Central Pennsylvania history. On that day 35 year ago, a series of mechanical failures and human mistakes led to the partial meltdown of a nuclear reactor at Three Mile Island.

On this week’s Smart Talk Friday, we’ll look back at the TMI accident and its aftermath with J. Samuel Walker, a historian who authored the book Three Mile Island: A Nuclear Crisis in Historical Perspective.

Also, on Smart Talk Friday, Lancaster County Republican Senator Lloyd Smucker has proposed legislation that would ban cash gifts to lawmakers. Government accountability group Common Cause PA’s Barry Kauffman wants to see reform as well. witf Capital Bureau Chief Mary Wilson talks with both men.

This comes almost two weeks after news that Attorney General Kathleen Kane won’t prosecute a case where four legislators allegedly accepted money from an undercover operative. Kane called the case flawed.

Scott Wagner surprised many people last week when he won a write-in campaign for a vacate state senate seat in York County. Wagner joins us too.

And finally, a local theater holds a Monty Python video contest.
