Longtime PA political journalist Peter DeCoursey dies
(Harrisburg) — One of the most influential journalists in the state Capitol has died at the age of 52, after losing his battle with cancer.

Peter DeCoursey pursued the truth through four administrations, stretching from Governor Tom Ridge to Governor Corbett.
DeCoursey started in journalism with the Reading Eagle in 1990, but became a full time political reporter with the Harrisburg Patriot News in 1997, and stuck to the Capitol through his last column filed this week for the online news service Capitolwire.com.
Along the way, he mentored young journalists, pressed politicians of both parties for the truth, and was often named one of the most influential people at the Capitol.
Governor Tom Corbett tweeted that DeCoursey brought a level of distinction and intelligence to reporting, while U-S Senator Bob Casey called him a smart, fair, and knowledgeable reporter.
Journalists also reacted to his death with a mix of sadness and gratitutde for having the opportunity to learn from him.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
