(Harrisburg) — Democrat Eric Papenfuse will be sworn in as Harrisburg’s next Mayor on Monday.

The understated ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. in City Hall. But there will be no inaugural ball afterwards. Instead of a gala, Mayor-elect Papenfuse is asking people to donate to a new fund that will help maintain and restore City Hall and Harrisburg’s Public Safety building.

Papenfuse says he’s alarmed at the lack of maintenance and unkempt appearances in some of the offices at City Hall — but notes the budget can’t fund major repairs and renovations.

The mayor-elect is especially concerned about the state of the Public Safety wing.

Papenfuse pledges to get to work cleaning the facilities with his cabinet immediately after the ceremony.

He says the facilities should be a focus of pride in the community, and provide an example of cleanliness and beauty.
