Dr. Paz, dean of the College of Medicine, says the funding will help keep tuition at competitive rates and encourage students to stay in the commonwealth to practice medicine.

Doctor Harold Paz, dean of the College of Medicine, says the money comes at a critical time, just as reimbursement rates are falling and other funding disappearing.

“We’ll have lessof an ability to transfer funds from our clinical operation over to support the college of medicine, and that support has been invaluable over the past number of years. And certainly research funding has been very challenging over the past several years.”

Paz says the grant is very important because it will help maintain the school’s high quality programs without requiring a tuition hike.

He notes the school aims to improve the quality and access to health care in central Pennsylvania.
