On June 14, 1863, Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Confederate troops drove a small Union army garrison out of Winchester, Virginia. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia was in the Shenandoah Valley, on its way to Pennsylvania as part of the Gettysburg Campaign. The Battle of Gettysburg would be fought two weeks later.

One-hundred-fifty years later to the day, witf‘s Radio Smart Talk will broadcast live from Gettysburg as part of the commemoration of the historic battle.

The program will be produced at the American Civil War Wax Museum and Gift Shop at 297 Steinwehr Avenue in Gettysburg.

Special guest on the program will be New York Times best-selling novelist Jeff Shaara. His latest book, A Chain of Thunder, is about the siege of Vicksburg. Last week, the book was at #9 on the Times’ best-seller list.

Also joining us will be filmmaker Jake Boritt. His documentary, The Gettysburg Story, will premiere at the Majestic Theater in Gettysburg at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Gen. Lee will make an appearance on the program as well.
