The state Insurance Department has launched PAHealthOptions.com, since the Affordable Care Act is being rolled out over the next few years.

Spokeswoman Melissa Fox says it’s designed to help people without insurance or who have questions about their own insurance find out about policies that are best for them. “Each health insurance need is going to be different for something as basic as a man versus a woman, or if you are a young, healthy adult, or if you are someone who has a chronic health condition. Everyone’s going to have different needs, and everyone’s going to have different things that they’re looking for in their policies.”

Fox says there’s also a glossary of insurance-related terms for consumers, as well as a manual for small businesses looking to offer insurance to employees.

Under the Affordable Care Act, most Americans will be required to have insurance by the beginning of next year, or pay a fine.
