The County Health Rankings report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute puts Chester County at the top of the list.

Among Pennsylvania’s top five healthiest counties are Cumberland, Snyder, and Union counties.

Abbey Cofsky of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation says the report evaluates more than two dozen factors researchers believe influence a person’s health. “Is there access to healthy water? Is there access to clean air? Are there places where people can exercise? And also, are there opportunities for higher education? Do we see high graduation rates? And are there quality jobs?”

Cofsky says it also shows rates of premature deaths in the least healthy counties are twice as high as those in the healthiest counties.

She adds it’s important for counties to help provide ways to stay healthy at home, in school, and at work.
