Online map looks at crime, emergency incidents in Lancaster County
(Lancaster) — Lancaster County’s website maps out the locations of live emergency medical, fire and traffic events.
Criminal activity displayed does not include specific addresses and is at least a day old.
County Commissioner Scott Martin says a number of communities that use State Police protection are unable to participate in the project because of an incompatibility in their computer systems.
“I know that’s what the police technology committee is working towards, is somehow incorporating that,” Martin says. “Unless the two entities are on the same systems, it makes it a little more difficult.”
Martin says the same problem keeps the City of Lancaster from posting its incident data on the map.
The nearly $150,000 project is an effort to meet requirements of the state’s Right-to-Know Law after an agreement between Lancaster Newspapers, the county district attorney’s office and the Lancaster County Chiefs of Police Association.
A grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency is funding the effort.
