Vedika Burman, a 6th grader from Central Dauphin Middle School, tied for 79th place in the Scripps National Spelling Bee last week in Washington, D.C. Vedika is the 2026 champion of the Central Pennsylvania Spelling Bee sponsored by WITF and Pennon Education. That competition involved 34 spellers from local schools and lasted 16 rounds.
Akshaj Somisetty, a seventh grader at Mountain View Middle School, earned the top spot at the 2024 Central PA Spelling Bee and an opportunity to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee held in National Harbor, Maryland.
She will be recognized during Bee Week, which is taking place in National Harbor, Maryland from May 30 – June 1.
Kenzo Veron, an eighth grader at Lamberton Middle School in the Carlisle School District, is the winner of the 2023 Central PA Spelling Bee.
“It made me feel really proud,” she said after clinching the victory. The 14-year-old Louisianan outspelled the competition with the winning word “murraya.”
