Kenosha police officer Rusten Sheskey, who is white, shot Jacob Blake seven times in the back after Blake slowly walked away from officers and toward the driver’s side of a parked vehicle. He opened the door and leaned inside.
Biden and his wife, Jill, will arrive in Kenosha just days after 2020 rival President Trump made a controversial visit to the city.
Trump said Monday that he did not plan to meet with Blake’s family because he said such a meeting would include the family’s attorney. Asked again whether he would meet with them on Tuesday before boarding Air Force One, Trump said, “I don’t know yet. We’ll see.”
Until recently, it was common practice that any time an officer fired a gun, the police department conducted the investigation. In 2014, Wisconsin became the first state to end that process.
