Three residents of a northeastern Pennsylvania county sued Tuesday to overturn a local official’s announcement that she will prevent all four of its drop boxes from being deployed for use by those voting by mail and absentee ballot in the Nov. 5 election.

Lehigh County is halting the use of election ballot dropboxes until further notice.

Four Chester County residents have asked the Chester County Court of Common Pleas to prohibit the county from using drop boxes to receive mail and absentee ballots unless the boxes are physically monitored to ensure that people deliver only their own ballot.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Pennsylvania is suing Lancaster’s commissioners over a decision to not offer a ballot drop box for the primary.
