Bill Cosby faces sex abuse allegations again as civil trial opens in California
The trial is one of the last cases Cosby faces after a Pennsylvania appeals court threw out his criminal sexual assault conviction and freed him from prison.
The U.S. Supreme Court announced Monday without comment that it would not review Bill Cosby’s sexual assault case.
The 84-year-old Cosby has been free since June. That’s when a Pennsylvania appeals court overturned his conviction and released him from prison.
Prosecutors asked the U.S. Supreme Court to review the decision that overturned Bill Cosby’s sexual assault conviction. In a petition filed Monday, they wrote that courts should not equate a supposed promise made by a former prosecutor to lifetime immunity.
A prominent Bill Cosby accuser has filed suit Thursday against the actor over a 1990 hotel room encounter in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Lili Bernard’s lawsuit comes just before the state’s two-year window to file older sexual assault claims expires. Bernard tells The Associated Press she was prompted in part by Cosby’s recent release from prison.
