My first journalism teacher taught us that journalists stand apart from other types of writers because everything we do must always be Truthful, Accurate and Fair. Whatever changes might come, he said, those principles would always stand.
The older I get, the more impressed I am with Mr. Regan's foundational vision.
The internet, smart phones and social media did indeed shake the pillars.
And yet, professional journalists still strive for each of these values in everything we do.
I'm proud to work for an organization that sees these guiding lights the same way I do.
I spent more than 30 years at the York Daily Record as everything from a police reporter to executive editor. I eventually became executive editor of six newsrooms in central Pa. -- in York, Franklin and Lebanon counties.
When I'm not at work, I enjoy hiking. Taking short day trips, I have hiked all of the Appalachian Trail from northern Virginia to just north of Lebanon County, as well as sections in six other states.
