Lock of Lincoln’s hair up for auction this week

Airdate: April 12th, 2023

Morphy’s Auctions, based in Denver, Lancaster County is in the midst of a three-day auction that includes some historic and valuable items.

Tuesday, a rare Civil War Confederate carbine rifle sold for $52,000, and Friday a locket that includes a lock of President Abraham Lincoln’s hair and a license plate that was on General Douglas MacArthur’s command car in Asia will be up for bids.

Dan Morphy, owner of Morphy’s Auctions was on The Spark Wednesday who described what’s up for auction between now and Friday,”It’s primarily firearms, early military and cutlery, you know, swords, edged weapons and then early documents like, of course, we have the lock of hair from from Abe Lincoln. But yeah, the general theme is just the early firearms, the military and cutlery, really, and historical items.”

Morphy was asked how someone could see what’s up for auction and bid,”The easiest process would be actually to go to our website, which is morphyauctions.com. They can go on there and register, but they can also preview the catalog. They can watch the sales live. Like right now our site, our sales streaming Speaker Watch. The auctioneer has everything going on. We also have the largest free appraisal service probably in the world. We have 2 to 300 items being coming across to us on a daily basis in all categories, and we don’t charge to do it. We appraise items at no cost, and that’s very it gets our name out there in a big way because people appreciate just helping them with numbers and values.”
