Great Performances is celebrating the reopening of the newly renovated David Geffen Hall with a special concert led by New York Philharmonic Music Director Jaap van Zweden. The reopening is taking place two years earlier than originally projected.
Recorded on October 28, the concert features a world premiere work by Puerto Rican composer Angélica Negrón celebrating the ritual of gathering around music and art, along with a performance of Ode to Joy as the finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Angélica Negrón’s world premiere was commissioned by NY Phil, and tenor Issachah Savage and bass Davóne Tines make their NY Phil debut in this concert.
Great Performances: NY Phil Reopening of David Geffen Hall presents a celebratory look at the orchestra’s future. Watch the premiere on WITF TV or the PBS Video app Friday, November 4 at 9pm as part of Great Performances’ 50th anniversary season. Stream it for free through the PBS Video app until December 3.
